Documents and local processing
OpenPreview reads files you choose using macOS file access permissions. Markdown parsing, JSON inspection, search, and text comparison happen locally. The app has no developer-operated document upload service, account system, advertising, analytics SDK, or custom crash-reporting service.
Text and unsaved drafts are held in the running app. Saving or Save As writes to the destination you choose. Reading and comparison do not automatically save edits. The app accesses the system clipboard when you use copy or paste commands.
Local records and storage
macOS may retain recent-document references, including file paths, and the app’s window position. The system networking session may store caches and cookies for requested resources. OpenPreview does not provide cloud sync or an automatic draft-backup service. Files in a cloud-synced folder or a device backup remain subject to your chosen provider and system settings.
Optional images and external links
Local Markdown images require access to the folder you select. Remote images are not fetched merely by opening a document: you must interact with an image and allow loading for the current document. The permission lasts for that open document; close it to end that permission for future loads.
An allowed request contacts the image address, including any query parameters or redirects. The destination receives your IP address and normal network request information, and may keep logs or use cookies under its own policy. OpenPreview uses the system URLSession shared session and does not proxy requests through a developer server. Avoid loading resources from addresses you do not trust.
Web, mail, support, and privacy links open through the appropriate system application. Those apps and destinations have their own privacy practices. Closing a document does not undo a request already sent.
Support messages
If you email support, Harry Chen receives your email address, message, and any name or attachments you provide through the email service. This information is used to answer the request and diagnose issues, not for advertising. Provide only what is necessary and redact private content.
Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to handle the request and related follow-up, then deleted when no longer needed, subject to applicable legal obligations. You may request access, correction, or deletion by emailing the contact below.
This website and other services
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages and uses Google Fonts. Visiting a page can send your IP address and ordinary request information to those providers. No analytics or advertising scripts are added to these pages. Their infrastructure processing is governed by the GitHub privacy statement and Google privacy policy.
Mac App Store purchases, downloads, and any diagnostics shared through Apple are handled under Apple’s privacy policy and your settings. OpenPreview does not ask for or store payment card information. Local Markdown parsing uses the open-source swift-markdown and swift-cmark libraries; those libraries are not analytics services.
Your choices and deletion
You can decline image requests, avoid external links, and close documents to stop further use of their access in the app. Save or discard drafts before quitting. Original files are not deleted when you remove OpenPreview. Removing the app bundle alone may leave system preferences, recent-file records, or networking caches; contact support for guidance on removing app-specific records. Clearing local records cannot remove logs already held by an external image host or email provider.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy and its effective date if app behavior changes. Questions or privacy requests: harrychendev@gmail.com.
