Shotsort Privacy Policy

Shotsort collects nothing. It has no server, no account system, and makes no network requests.

What data is collected

None. Shotsort does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Specifically, it contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no tracking of any kind, and no account or sign-in of any kind. The app makes no outbound network requests, so there is no channel through which data could leave your device even accidentally. You can verify this by using the app with the network turned off: every feature behaves identically.

Access to your photos

Shotsort asks for access to your photo library because iOS does not offer a way to grant access to a single album. Within that access, Shotsort only ever reads the Screenshots album. It does not read, index, copy, or upload any other photo or video.

For each screenshot, Shotsort uses Apple's on-device text recognition to extract the text in the image, and — on iPhone models that support it — Apple's on-device language model to assign a category. Both run entirely on your iPhone. No image and no extracted text is ever sent anywhere.

What is stored, and where

Shotsort stores its index inside its own app container on your iPhone. For each screenshot that is: a reference to the photo in your library, the text found in it, the category it was filed under, the date it was taken, its size and dimensions, whether you have opened it inside Shotsort, and the few details read out of the text — an amount and merchant on a receipt, a domain on a link, a date on a ticket. The images themselves are not copied into the index; the originals stay where they have always been, in Photos.

One thing is written outside that index, and this page would be incomplete without it. So the home-screen widget can draw without re-reading your library, Shotsort saves a few counts and five small thumbnails of your five most recent screenshots into a container it shares with its own widget. Those thumbnails are downscaled copies, they never leave your iPhone, they are replaced every time the index updates, and they are removed with everything else when you delete the app.

None of this is backed up to any service operated by me, because no such service exists. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your iPhone may include the app's containers in your own encrypted device backup, under your own Apple Account. That backup is between you and Apple.

Third parties

There are none. Shotsort includes no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, or external services, and no parent, subsidiary, or related entity receives any data — because no data is ever transmitted. Nothing about your use of Shotsort is shared with anyone, including me.

Retention, deletion, and withdrawing consent

Because nothing is collected or transmitted, there is no data held by me to retain, delete, or return, and no request process to go through.

Everything Shotsort has stored lives on your own iPhone, and you can remove it at any time:

Deletions Shotsort makes to your photo library go through the system, so removed screenshots land in Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted and can be recovered there for 30 days.

Children

Shotsort collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. It is not directed at children and contains no advertising, no user-generated content, and no way to contact other people through the app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Shotsort ever changes what it does with your data, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the effective date at the top will change. Older versions of the app remain governed by the policy in force when they were released.
